Detecting and diagnosing navigational mistakes

چکیده

The characteristics of natural environments, as well as the limitations on representations, sensors, and actuators, make navigational mistakes inevitable. This paper looks at how to detect and diagnose mistakes autonomous mobile robots make while navigating through large-scale space using vision. Mistakes are perceptual, cognitive, or motor events that divert one from the intended route. Detection and diagnosis consist of realizing a mistake has occurred, determining what it was, and when it happened. This paper describes an approach that detects mistakes by finding mis-matches between observations and expectations. It diagnoses mistakes by examining knowledge from a variety of sources, including a history of observations and actions. It supports these operations by using symbolic visual information to compare expectations with observations augmented by a priori knowledge. This paper describes MUCKLE, the simulation used to test the approach, and presents experimental results that demonstrate its effectiveness.

Detecting Mistakes or Finding Misconceptions? Diagnosing Morpho-Syntactic Errors in Language Learning

Diagnosing morphosyntactic errors in a language learner’s utterance can substantially profit from a direct treatment of morphological regularities if wordform-internal relationships are integrated into the general constraintbased model of correctness. The paper describes model structures for a range of selected problems from different inflected languages, namely German, Russian and Bulgarian, a...

The most common mistakes on dermatoscopy of melanocytic lesions

Dermatoscopy is a method of in vivo evaluation of the structures within the epidermis and dermis. Currently, it may be the most precise pre-surgical method of diagnosing melanocytic lesions. Diagnostic errors may result in unnecessary removal of benign lesions or what is even worse, they can cause early and very early melanomas to be overlooked. Errors in assessment of dermatoscopy can be divid...

Detecting Erase Strokes from Online Handwritten Notes Using Support Vector Classification

We have implemented a student note-sharing system, AirTransNote, that facilitates collaborative and interactive learning in conventional classrooms. With the AirTransNote system, a teacher can immediately share student notes with the class using a projection screen to enhance group learning. However, students tend to hesitate to share their notes, particularly when the notes contain embarrassin...
